Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut is the definitive version of the legendary prequel in the Yakuza series. Set in Tokyo and Osaka in December 1988, during the peak of Japan’s economic bubble, the game places players in a fierce struggle for control of the “Empty Lot”—a small piece of land that becomes the focal point of conflict among the most powerful yakuza organizations in the East.

Players take control of two main characters with intertwined stories: Kazuma Kiryu, a young member of the Dojima Family within the Tojo Clan, who becomes entangled in a murder case that forces him to stand against his own organization; and Goro Majima, an exiled former yakuza now managing the Grand cabaret club in Sotenbori, tasked with redeeming himself through a dangerous mission.

The unique combat system allows seamless switching between three distinct fighting styles for each character. Kiryu and Majima can use fists as well as improvised weapons from the environment—such as bicycles, signboards, and statues—to unleash creative attacks. The controls are simple and accessible, yet require skillful execution, delivering a thrilling and dynamic action experience.

Beyond combat, the game recreates the extravagant lifestyle of 1980s Japan with a wide variety of activities: disco dancing, karaoke, nightclubs, hostess bars, classic SEGA arcade games, cabaret club management, and many other engaging mini-games set within vibrant neon-lit cities.

The Director’s Cut edition adds nearly 30 minutes of previously unreleased cutscenes, offering deeper insight into key events and character backstories. Notably, the Red Light Raid mode—the first online multiplayer feature in the series—allows players to team up with friends, choose from over 60 characters, and battle through waves of enemies across multiple stages.

The game supports full English and Chinese voice acting, along with multilingual subtitles including French, German, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian. Visual performance has been upgraded with smooth 4K resolution at 60 FPS, along with significantly improved lighting and reflections compared to the original version.
