Tempest Rising is a classic real-time strategy game combined with modern production technology, developed by Slipgate Ironworks. The game is inspired by legendary RTS titles from the 90s-2000s such as Command & Conquer, with traditional base-building gameplay in a modern alternate history setting.

Set in 1997 in a parallel world where the Cuban Missile Crisis was not resolved peacefully but escalated into World War III with nuclear weapons. After the devastating war, a mysterious tree species capable of generating Tempest energy began to spread across the Earth, creating a new conflict between factions.

The game has 3 asymmetric factions with completely different combat styles and economies. Global Defense Force (GDF) focuses on high technology, mobility, and positional combat. Tempest Dynasty specializes in overwhelming force tactics with heavy units and the ability to upgrade structures. Veti is the third faction with advanced alien technology, which will be added in a future update.

The gameplay system is based on the rock-paper-scissors principle with units having clear strengths and weaknesses. Tanks can crush infantry, fighter jets dominate ground forces but are weak against anti-aircraft. Units accumulate experience through 3 levels of veterancy, increasing durability and damage in combat.

Players will experience 2 single-player campaigns with a total of 22 missions (each faction has 11 missions), and can customize their army before each battle. The game provides Doctrine, Commissary, and Armory systems to personalize the forces. Each campaign has special expert characters with their own storyline and special abilities on the battlefield.

The multiplayer mode uses the Glicko-2 ranking system with a separate balance from the campaign. The game has 9 skirmish and multiplayer maps with difficulty levels from Easy to Insane. Players can join custom games, skirmish against AI, or ranked matchmaking.

The music was composed by Frank Klepacki – the legendary composer of Command & Conquer, along with artists such as Michael Markie, Hexenkraft, and Adam Skorupa. The soundtrack includes 41 tracks with a powerful synth metal style, creating a characteristic post-apocalyptic war atmosphere.

The game features impressive 3D graphics with dust effects when vehicles move, buildings exploding with realistic physics, and planes spinning as they are shot down. The traditional sidebar interface allows easy control, while the grid building system enables organized base construction.

Tempest Rising is not only a nostalgia game but also provides a modern RTS experience with excellent optimization, intelligent AI, and deep gameplay mechanics. The game received a score of 85/100 from PC Gamer and 8/10 from PCGamesN, praised as "a love letter to classic RTS titles."
