Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is SEGA's latest kart racing game, offering a brand new cross-dimensional racing experience. The game combines elements from previous Sonic Racing titles such as Extreme Gear from Sonic Riders and the Transform feature from All-Stars Racing, creating the pinnacle of the Sonic racing game series.

The biggest highlight is the Travel Rings mechanism – teleportation rings that allow you to travel through different worlds right within the race. Upon completing the first lap, the leading racer will choose one of two randomly appearing CrossWorlds. Each CrossWorld features a unique style with giant monsters, exciting obstacles, and beautiful scenery. The final lap of the main track will transform with new paths and exclusive shortcuts, making each race unpredictable and exciting.

The game has 24 main tracks and 15 CrossWorlds in the original version, with an additional 6 tracks from the Season Pass. The dynamic tracks change each lap between land, sea, and air terrains, requiring players to continuously adjust their racing strategies. The Red Star Ring system hidden on the main tracks (5 rings per track) offers a collecting challenge for players who enjoy exploration.

The character roster is the largest in Sonic Racing history with 23 iconic characters from the Sonic and SEGA universe. For the first time, characters are not tied to fixed cars – you are free to combine 45 unique cars with your favorite characters. The customization system allows mix-matching parts from different cars, choosing colors, decals, and textures for every detail including the interior, creating a completely unique racing car.

70 different types of Gadgets function like an RPG system, can be equipped and combined before racing to receive special perks. Each character and vehicle has its own parameters for speed, acceleration, and handling. With over 100 vehicle parts, hundreds of cosmetic items, and 70,000 different customization combinations, you can create vehicles that are both visually appealing and suited to your racing style.

The item system consists of 23 different types including the brand new Monster Truck and familiar items from the previous part. Collect Rings along the way to increase maximum speed, perform drifts through sharp turns and tricks in the air to receive speed boosts. The racing mechanism emphasizes drift skills and the use of strategic items to surpass 11 other opponents.

The diverse gameplay modes include 8 main game modes serving from 1-4 local players up to 12 online players. Grand Prix has 8 tournaments, each with 4 races, where the final race connects the previous 3 tracks via the Travel Ring. Race Park is a new party mode for a fun experience with friends. World Match allows online ranked competition with cross-platform matchmaking, accumulating Rank Points to climb the leaderboard. Friend Match opens a custom lobby with full customization of speed, team, track, AI difficulty, and game rules. Time Trial mode challenges individual skills with main tracks and separate CrossWorld tracks.

Extreme Gear from Sonic Riders officially returns, bringing a unique boost-based racing style with hoverboard flying boards. The vehicle transform mechanism like in All-Stars Racing allows the vehicle to change shape to move on land, water, and air. Sound is handled by Tomoya Ohtani and the SEGA composer team along with guest artists such as Tee Lopes, Camellia, Zardonic. Project Onsoku collaboration with Hatsune Miku brings 5 exclusive Vocaloid songs with music videos.
