Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is a fully 3D remake of the groundbreaking non-linear JRPG originally released in Japan in 1993. This is a unique role-playing game with a generational inheritance mechanic, where players will lead an imperial dynasty in a thousand-year-long war against the Seven Heroes of Sa Ga.

The story begins when the Seven Heroes – those who were once honored as the saviors of the world – return after a thousand years of exile. However, they are no longer saviors but have become villains eager to take revenge on humanity for being forgotten. As the Emperor of the Varennes Empire, you must protect the kingdom through many generations, expand the territory, and defeat each member of the Seven Heroes group.

The most special feature of the game lies in the Imperial Succession system. Players can choose any character from more than 30 different classes to become the next Emperor. Each class has a preferred weapon, unique abilities, and distinct strategies. The knowledge, skills, and power of previous emperors are passed down to the successor through mysterious inheritance magic, creating a timeless bond between generations.

The game features a unique free non-linear script structure, offering countless different story experiences depending on your choices. The order in which you expand the Empire, the order in which you challenge the Seven Heroes – all deeply affect the Emperor's journey. No two playthroughs are the same, each decision creates a separate story.

The tactical turn-based combat system has been upgraded to a timeline system, allowing you to clearly see the action order of allies and enemies. The game retains classic SaGa mechanics such as Glimmers – where you learn new skills during battle when using moves with a light bulb icon, and Formations – formations that provide unique benefits to the team. The remake also adds a completely new feature, United Attack, allowing you to perform combined attacks with teammates to turn the tide of battle.

The original 2D pixel graphics have now been completely recreated in 3D, still retaining the distinctive charm based on the beautiful concept art of Tomomi Kobayashi. All towns and dungeons have been fully rebuilt with terrain and layouts carefully redesigned.

The game offers three difficulty levels: Casual for a story-focused experience, Normal recommended for veteran RPG players seeking a balanced experience, and Hard (Classic) perfect for those looking for a harsh challenge like the original 1993 version. The soundtrack is by Kenji Ito – the original composer – returning with wonderful new arrangements. You can switch between the original music and the new version from the Options menu. All cutscene scenes have full Japanese and English voice acting.

This remake also adds the Memories system, allowing players to explore the past of the Seven Heroes through special stone pedestals in the world. This helps you understand who they were before their fall, how they became the Seven Heroes, and the tragedy that caused them to be betrayed by the Ancients themselves.
