Red Dead Redemption is a classic open-world action-adventure game by Rockstar Games. Set in the wild west in 1911, the game is a continuation of the story of Red Dead Redemption 2, taking place 12 years after the events of part 2.

In Red Dead Redemption 2, players take on the role of Arthur Morgan – the key gunslinger of the Van der Linde gang in 1899. At that time, John Marston was still a young member of the gang, along with his wife Abigail and son Jack. The series of events in part 2 leads to the downfall of the gang, with the death of Arthur and the escape of John with his family.

The plot of Red Dead Redemption begins with the tragedy of John Marston when the Bureau of Investigation (BOI) takes his family hostage. To ensure the safety of his wife and child, he is forced to hunt down the three surviving former members of the Van der Linde gang: Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella, and Dutch van der Linde.

The game setting spans across the vast wild lands including New Austin, West Elizabeth, and Nuevo Paraiso. Each land has distinctive terrain and culture, from arid deserts, vast grasslands to lush jungles. The game realistically reflects the transition period from the Wild West to the modern era.

The deep gameplay system allows players to freely explore the world with random events, wildlife, and treasures. Fight using a cover system, a variety of period weapons, and the Dead Eye feature – which allows slowing down time to accurately aim at multiple targets.

The game features a complex interaction mechanism through the Honor meter, affecting NPCs' reactions to Marston. Good actions result in positive interactions, while criminal behavior leads to bounty. Players can participate in various side activities such as playing poker, hunting legendary animals, and taking bounty missions.

The story revolves around the redemption and sacrifice of John Marston. From a notorious outlaw, he tries to build an honest life for his family but is haunted by his past. The hunt for former comrades puts him in morally difficult situations, while also facing the changes of the era.

The rich cast of characters contributes to deepening the story. Abigail – the strong wife who always supports her husband, Jack – the son who witnesses his father's sacrifice, Dutch van der Linde – the gang leader with collapsing ideals, and Edgar Ross – the government agent representing the new order.

The PC version includes the DLC Undead Nightmare – a horror story about a zombie pandemic. The expansion offers a unique experience as Marston must fight to protect his family and find a way to end the disaster. The DLC retains the main gameplay elements but adds creepy supernatural aspects.
