As one of the most unique strategy games, Battle Realms: Zen Edition made a breakthrough in the RTS genre when it was released in 2001. The game was created by Ed Del Castillo – the producer of Command & Conquer, inspired by Eastern culture with the distinctive artistic style of classic martial arts films.

The Zen Edition brings many superior improvements compared to the original version such as upgraded graphics, dual screen support, higher resolution, and online play mode. This version also integrates both the original content and the Winter of the Wolf expansion – a prequel part that tells the story of the Wolf tribe's uprising against the Lotus domination.

The game stands out with a unique troop training system that allows peasants to be transformed into warriors through various paths. Each unit can be upgraded into stronger warriors such as Samurai, Cannoneers, Bandits, or Berserkers, creating diversity in tactics.

The environment in the game is extremely vivid and interactive. Birds will fly away when startled, wolves can attack the army, high terrain provides an advantage for ranged attacks. When it rains, fire will be extinguished and crops grow faster, creating a truly interactive world.

Battle Realms has four main factions: the Dragon Clan pursues honor and righteousness, the Serpent Clan specializes in cunning and complex weapons, the Wolf Clan values freedom and connection with nature, while the Lotus Clan focuses on dark magic. Each tribe has its own fighting philosophy, culture, and distinct story.

The Zen Masters system allows each faction to have champions with special abilities, capable of performing extraordinary skills on the battlefield. These champions are not only strong in power but also inspire the army, opening up many new tactics.

The game uses a unique Yin & Yang system, allowing players to accumulate points through combat to unlock new weapons and spells. The more they fight, the more tactical options and power players gain.

The main plot revolves around Kenji, the exiled heir to the Serpent throne. Players will decide Kenji's path: either to pursue power through violence and terror, or to restore glory to the kingdom shattered by war.

The game supports multiplayer mode with up to 8 players, along with dozens of diverse maps and extensive custom PvP battle modes. This creates epic battles with countless strategies and different ways to play.

Battle Realms also has a unique economic system based on harvesting rice and water. Farmers not only gather resources but can also be trained into warriors, creating a balance between economic development and military.

Each unit in the game has its own skill system and can be upgraded through training buildings. This creates tactical depth as players must consider whether to keep basic units or upgrade them into stronger warriors.
